Dear Woolies,
Thankyou for cross subsidising fuel, with your "shopper docket" What I really like about your scheme, is that I have to carry little bits of paper around and get them in the right order, and go to the correct little depot, so that I can get my $1.28 rebate. It's sort of like doing paperwork for the government to pay GST. I like paperwork. I think it's really neat that if I get slack, or slip up, then the person driving the 4WD will get the full $3.20 subsidy from me. It keeps me on my toes. I especially like the expiry date system. I have to throw out most of my dockets, but I imagine that people who drive V8 cars long distance, can use all of theirs.
I have no idea of what pensioners think of them. Perhaps they are always giving them to other family members who drive large cars. Anyway, it kind of keeps them busy, I guess. They have nothing else to do but die, and pass their money on.
I think it will be pretty cool when things get more competitive, and the independents join in, and the discounts get greater. That way we will be completely locked into the imaginative loyalty schemes. I saw a Woolworths fuel depot in Brisbane, where the only staff member was absent for some reason I forget, and the customers had piled up into a 20 minute queue. It kind of reminded me of mother Russia and food coupons.
It's good that you are working hand in hand with the government, to counteract their progress in implementing the Kyoto protocol. Any progress they make; you'll give back to the V8 drivers. It's sort of complementary. Ying and yang. I like it when things are in balance. -Chris
