A POSSUM SPEAKS OUT

Some things us possums love to do is to hang around houses, climb on the tin roof, run around, make a racket, party late into the night and eaves drop.

Yeah, we pick up a lot of gossip. We've learnt a bit in our time you know. After all we've been around a fair stint. Over 70 million years you know. We've seen many species come and go, not that us possum's are in the habit of boasting, it's just that humans are pretty difficult to get through to. And, big numbers seem to impress you lot. Humans are so species-centred and arrogant to boot.

Let me state the obvious     Top of page

Humans are not the only creatures in this universe, nor are you the best. Your self-importance is out of all proportion to your value. What do you think you are doing that's so helpful anyway?

You seem totally obsessed with grabbing for yourself resources that belong to all things. Making yourself comfortable by isolating yourself from other living things is a futile path to follow. How can you ever expect to be happy when those around you are miserable. It's not even making humans happy, because deep down we're all connected. Us creatures want to help you reconnect with life at large. If only humans were humble enough to hear before more damage is done.

The message is getting louder. Us possums for one will not just go away.Nature is rallying - it takes a lot of aggravation for a possum to write.Nobody wants to usurp you. Humans have their place, we all need each other.

We don't judge you. But we notice. How could we not notice, you kill millions of animals every week, not to mention plants. I know it's impressive that you can talk. But wasn't talking supposed to help communication?

How many of you communicate with us, or for that matter, with anything else apart from other human's? You dominate docile domesticates from the animal world like dogs and cows. Now you think you're on-line and in touch with the world wide web.

To us it's just humans talking to humans... no possums, no fish, no stars, no trees, on-line. Just human words and pictures. It has all the excitement and possibilities of degeneration as incest.

If you listen with your hearts you'd find more wisdom in your backyards.
Humans look to nature for real wisdom!!!!

I mean it shouldn't take a possum to tell you. You pride yourselves on big brains don't you?

Can't you see your fascination with non-organic life is a dead end? Machines have their place but they're not the way to go. Even an ant is fundamentally more sophisticated than a motor car. Think about it. A car is a clumsy thing, borne of polluting factories, spreading toxic waste when it moves. It's rusting carcass no use to any living thing. It's totally helpless to look after itself. People must build it, feed it, fuel and maintain it. An ant reproduces itself, grows, heals. Its lifestyle and wastes help life.

This is the way nature works. That's why you're organic; that's why nature is here.

People used to know us.... after all our dreaming is shared. Even your scientists will tell you that human genes are almost the same as all other animals and over 70% the same as plants. People did feel a connection once. Some of those clever black fellows could feel our souls and see into our hearts. But that was in the past, the future will bring new wisdom. I can't tell you what, I'm only a possum.

It is up to you humans, to find your own way through. I know that many of you know things are very wrong. Let me just tell you that you are not alone. You must work at what you feel is right for the sake of us all.
